Handiplage

Handiplage is a label awarded to beaches that are accessible to people with disabilities. In Argelès-sur-Mer, this initiative exists to provide easy, safe access to the beach and sea for people with reduced mobility. Beaches with the Handiplage label are equipped with special facilities such as access ramps, tiralo (amphibious wheelchairs) and adapted sanitary facilities.

Access to the sea for people with reduced mobility is an integral part of the quality initiative undertaken by the town of Argelès-sur-Mer and the Municipal Tourist Office.
It is part of the desire to live together in a more caring and more human society, and to enable people with disabilities to fully enjoy the pleasures of the sea and the beach in a seaside resort like Argelès-sur-Mer.

 Beach development

To facilitate access to the sea for all, the commune of Argelès-sur-Mer has set up specific facilities at the rescue stations (GIC parking, pathways, two-way traffic, sanitary facilities, Tiralo, wheelchairs, etc.).

 Signage

Special signage with the Handiplage logo has also been installed on all the main roads in Argelès Plage, facilitating access to the P3 station.

Thanks to these facilities, the town of Argelès-sur-Mer has been awarded the national “Handiplage” level 3 label, symbolized by two buoys.
