This monument was built at the end of the 19th century in the middle of the Mas de Vallmaria wine estate, from which it probably takes its name. It is the work of the Danish architect Viggo Dorp-Petersen, whose work was much appreciated by the rich families of Roussillon.
The building site was opened in 1888 on the initiative of the industrialist Pierre Bardou, owner of the JOB cigarette paper factories. The castle was completed in the 1900s and has always kept its original appearance.
